DCANet Bolsters Network with 80-Mile Fiber Optic Ring from
City Signal Communications

PHILADELPHIA, January 20, 2004 – DCANet, a leading provider of quality Internet services throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Southern New Jersey announced today that they have acquired an 80-mile fiber optic ring that will provide high capacity network redundancy and self-healing capabilities between its data centers in Wilmington and Philadelphia.

"We are very excited about expanding our dark fiber network to our Wilmington data center, says Keith Duncan, PhD, President and CEO of Consult Dynamics / DCANet. "The agreement between DCANet and City Signal represents the culmination of years of network design and planning. The strategic importance of DCANet lighting its own dark fiber cannot be understated as we will now have the ability to move data throughout the region at gigabit and greater capacities."

DCANet currently operates a dark fiber network in central Philadelphia, connecting two Philadelphia data centers. Expanding their Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) network to the Wilmington facility will allow DCANet to move forward with new IP-based applications, including: voice, storage, video and traditional Internet transit. The network will also open new opportunities for DCANet in providing transport between Wilmington and other tenants of 401 North Broad Street.

"We are pleased to see DCANet capitalize on our high capacity Wilmington-to-Philadelphia optical fiber network,” said John Foley, President and CEO of Philadelphia-based City Signal Communications. “The need for bandwidth between the two markets is growing exponentially. Our diverse network provides a highly secure and very reliable means of achieving instantaneous inter-state data transport.” said Foley.

DCANet is focused on providing cutting edge converged services such as VoIP, iSCSI IP-addressable storage, metro-gigabit Ethernet transit, and hosted applications. All of these forward thinking products require significant bandwidth and a high quality of network services. Hence, by running and maintaining a regional fiber network, DCANet will be able to deliver on the promise of these new technologies..
