DSL Access

DCANet DSL provides Internet connectivity by linking your home or office to DCANet via a high-speed digital subscriber line. DSL is an always on, flat-rate broadband circuit providing the speed of traditional leased-line circuits at a fraction of the cost.

DCANet currently provisions ADSL through Verizon and SDSL through Covad and the DCANet Metro DSL service. ADSL, or asymmetric DSL, provides a faster download than upload speed, ideal for access where consumption of Internet content is more important than the production of Internet content. SDSL provides the same speed for uploads and downloads, and is recommended for business use and environments with local mail or other servers.

All DCANet DSL circuits include a "slash 29 block" of IP addresses. This means that all DCANet DSL circuits include a block of six usable IP addresses. Multiple computers can be connected to any DCANet DSL circuit.

DCANet does not use PPP over Ethernet, ensuring DSL compatibility with any Ethernet equipped hardware. DCANet also assigns IP addresses statically, making it easy to access your machine from home or remotely. Certain types of DSL service will require that you register the ARP address of any Ethernet equipment that directly touches the DSL network, a DCANet support specialist can help you find this information.

DCANet does not filter any ports or block any services on our DSL circuits. All Internet applications should have 100% compatibility with any DCANet Internet access service.

DCANet monitors all SDSL circuits continuously and will open a trouble ticket on your behalf should problems arise with your circuit. In the event of an outage, DCANet offers an optional circuit backup system via an ISDN line at your location for SDSL circuits. Should your SDSL circuit go down for whatever reason, we will configure the router at your location to then dial the DCANet modem pool via ISDN to provide uninterrupted service to your network. When the SDSL circuit is restored, the ISDN line automatically disconnects and traffic is routed over the SDSL circuit.

DCANet Metro DSL is a private SDSL circuit that does not involve the use of a DSL carrier such as Verizon or Covad. Available in metropolitan areas, DCANet Metro DSL is a highly reliable, low latency point-to-point SDSL circuit from a DCANet point-of-presence to your location. The actual bandwidth level attainable on DCANet Metro DSL depends on the exact location of the network termination point. Multiple DCANet Metro DSL circuits can be bonded together to provide a reliable, highly economical multimegabit connectivity solution. DCANet Metro DSL is currently available in most of downtown Wilmington, DE, Bryn Mawr, PA and Center City Philadelphia. Please contact a DCANet sales associate for information on availability.
